Handcrafted in the American studio craft tradition, this custom writing desk is inspired by the iconic style of Wharton Esherick (1887–1970). Often recognized as the "Dean of American Craftsmen," Esherick was a pioneering artist who led the Studio Furniture Movement, steering design away from traditional, rigid geometry toward fluid, asymmetrical, and sculptural forms that showcase the natural character of wood. Taking design cues from Esherick’s original furniture, this piece features a gently curved, kidney-shaped top paired with a sculpted, asymmetrical apron that follows the fluid lines of the desk. The table rests on four elegantly shaped, tapered legs that emphasize its organic silhouette. The entire piece was custom built using white oak lumber sourced directly from a storm-felled tree on the client's property. The minimalist lines of the design are paired with practical utility, including a hand-cut dovetailed pencil drawer hidden seamlessly within the curved frame. The desk measures 64 inches long by 32 inches wide and stands 30 inches tall, providing a generous workspace that highlights the crotch grain in the solid two and a quarter inch thick solid oak slab top.

To ensure long-term durability and protect the wood, the piece is finished with several coats of hand-applied and rubbed varnish. This process enhances the deep grain structure of the white oak, delivering a smooth, satin luster and excellent wear resistance.
