Philadelphia Garvan Slab Table T155
This custom Philadelphia slab table is built in walnut using deep mortise and tenon joinery. Other versions are shown in the photo gallery made from mahogany. The legs are shaped and carved by hand from matching four inch thick stock. The table is based on an original slab table at Winterthur attributed to an unidentified Philadelphia carver known to scholars as the Garvan Carver. Hand carved gadrooning is applied along the lower edges of the aprons with egg and dart molding just under the marble slab. Customers can choose their own stone top. Dimensions are approximately 21" deep, 60" wide, and 34" high. The table is finished with multiple coats of hand rubbed shellac.
Tables can be built to client specifications in a range of sizes and wood species, including walnut, tiger maple, flame birch, cherry, and mahogany. Additional table designs may be viewed here.
